1. 2 feet of 4 inch diameter Schedule 40 PVC pipe

2. 4 feet of 2 inch diameter Schedule 40 PVC pipe

3. 4 inch to 2 inch PVC pipe adapter

4. 4 inch diameter PVC cleanout with screw on cap

5. Coleman type spark lantern ignitor

6. PVC cleaning solution

7. PVC cement

8. JB Weld

1. Clean all surfaces of PVC pipe and fittings, following instructions on cleaning solution container.

2. Glue and seat the 2 inch diameter barrel to the 2 inch to 4 inch adapter. Use a block of wood and a rubber mallet if necessary. Assemble the remaining parts one at a time in the same manner. DO NOT CEMENT THE SCREW IN CAP TO THE 4 INCH CLEANOUT! Set the assembly in a safe area to dry and cure for the time specified by the instructions on the PVC cement container.

3. Disassemble the Coleman lantern igniter. Drill a hole in the center of the cleanout cap that will accomodate it.

4. Seat the lantern sparker in the hole previously drilled in a manner that the sparks will light inside the combustion chamber. Apply a liberal amount of JB Weld to the lantern sparker/cap assembly and allow to cure.

5. Do not fire the cannon until all joints have cured. The heat and shock of a premature firing will greatly weaken the cemented joints and pose a safety liability to the user.

I had given up on hairspray as a viable fuel a couple of years back. A friend of mine at work tried some of the recommended brands with fair results.(Final Net, White Rain etc.) He suggested that I try Suave Extra Hold. I was a bit skeptical since I'm a diehard Ronsonal lighter fluid man myself. His recommended fuel charge was a 5 - 6 second spray. I tried a 5 second spray and gently lobbed one about 150 yards with none of the explosive "boom" that usually comes from lighter fluid. My instincts told me I was over fueled for 68 F, 30.20 mm pressure and 48% RH. On the next shot a 3 second spray was used. I regret not having hearing protection. The detonation was so intense that it left my ears ringing. If I had to relate it to a similar experience I would say it easily matches the pain and discomfort associated with firing a .357 without hearing protection. My wife was not the least bit impressed and told me to take my toy back in the woods. Toy? Excuse me, toys don't lob vegetable matter 250+ yards with a deafening explosion. Well...then again, I guess mine do.
